Hi,
I’ll start by saying how amazing Scaler 2 is and how it’s become an essential tool in my workflow for discovering unique chord progressions and coming up with new ideas. The chord suggestion feature is fantastic, and I truly appreciate how Davide is so engaged with the community—his responsiveness is incredible.
That said, while Scaler is amazing for exploring chords and progressions, the programming functions feel a bit limiting. The Edit tab does allow some control over timings and durations, but it’s not as intuitive as other chord tools like EZkeys or Captain Chords, which offer more traditional piano roll editing.
Currently, I typically work out the progression in Scaler, then copy the chords into the DAW and program the rhythm/pattern there. The issue arises when I want to make changes and audition them in the context of the project.
It would be fantastic if Scaler allowed users to copy a MIDI sequence from the DAW into Scaler, maintaining the timing of the pattern, and then experiment with chord changes, alternative progressions, etc., directly in real-time. This would streamline the workflow and make it far easier to experiment with ideas in the full context of the project.
Am I overlooking a feature, or is this something that could be improved in future updates? Real-time manipulation, in the context of the project, would really elevate Scaler’s workflow and make it even more powerful.
JJ
