This was originally aimed at users that couldn’t launch Scaler because of OpenGL issues or weren’t able to access the settings menu because of the default resolution.
It proved to be quite useful to change some of the defaults without having to launch the DAW, so we made them all editable, and added a way to reset everything to default.
Opening the ScalerSettings Application:
MacOS:
Press CMD+Space to open the Spotlight Search and type “ScalerSettings”
Windows:
Press the Windows key to open the search and type “ScalerSettings”
Someone wrote about a popup for a video overview that they couldn’t seem to get out of the way because they couldn’t access the buttons that were off the screen. This post was in regards to not being able to license Scaler.
Perhaps licensing could be added? I know it’s a one-off process that doesn’t need repeating, but it might make things a bit simpler. Definitely something to think over, possibly.
I know that I can arrange the monitors (if you have more than one) and leave windows stranded by simply arranging the monitor x/y locations. Orphan windows that can’t be addressed with a mouse (can’t be moved because can’t reach the window top to drag it, or size too big for the monitor), etc. could possibly be handled here, too?
I don’t know, but it sure does open a wide array of possibilities.
Thanks @Ed1
Looks like the OpenGL settings have been moved out of Scaler2 → Settings completely now??
In which case it would be handy to have a link to open ScalerSettings.app from within the Scaler2 Settings section.
I get that this link will be of no use to people who can’t even open Scaler2.
However, it will be useful to people who can. I’m able to open Scaler2 and I was trying to resolve an issue by turning off OpenGL (it didn’t work, but worth a try!), and I spent a while puzzling over where the OpenGL settings had got to.
To further add to my confusion (and I appreciate this is an edge-case) I use AlfredApp, and by default AlfredApp doesn’t seem to search \Users\Shared, so even though I did a search for ‘Scaler’, ScalerSettings.app didn’t show up.
So yeah, a link from the Settings section would be handy - at the very least it would make people aware of the existence of the app, especially if key settings like OpenGL have been removed from the built-in Settings panel.
the OpenGL setting was never part of the Scaler settings menu, it was added for users who could not open the app at all and it requires a restart of the plugin. So it wasn’t really fitting with the session settings in the menu.
Thanks for reporting your issue with Alfred and the suggestion to add a link from Scaler. This could be a good addition to help users locate the settings app in the future.
Hey @Ed1 - thanks for the response. Ah that’ll be my shoddy memory misremembering things then!
I do remember turning OpenGL off at some point, so I must have done it via the app.
