Multi Voice Output Logic Pro 11

Hello everyone.

As it’s now possible to route MIDI internally in Logic 11, I’m wondering if anything changed with how Scaler is used in multi voice mode in Logic 11?

I tried using it like Tristan does with Cubase and Studio One in the Scaler Official Course, but I could not get it to work. I’m wondering whether I’m doing something wrong, or if it’s still not possible?

Thanks.

Hi @Tedness You can now route MIDI internally in Logic and you can actually have a different instrument for each voice on a different channel but from my experimenting it is very fiddly! You need Scaler MIDI FX sending to an instrument, then you create other instrument tracks and route the Internal Midi in from the Scaler channel and correspond the midi channel in the logic region parameters and the instrument and you have to have all channels input monitoring on! The instrument still need to be multi timbral. See attached if it makes any sense!

Hi Davide.

Many thanks for taking the time to illustrate how it works. Fiddly indeed! :slightly_smiling_face:

I finally got it to work, kind of, but it didn’t split the notes of a chord up and send them out on different MIDI channels.

I don’t know if this is the correct way, but I did something different and it seems to work:

I set up the first track with scaler MIDI FX in multi-out mode, with the ‘Canon’ Divisi preset selected.

I opened any instrument plug-in in the instrument slot on the same track - it doesn’t have to be scaler and muted the track. I didn’t need to select a specific MIDI channel, I just left it on ‘All’.

I created three other instrument tracks, each hosting an instance of East West Play and set each track’s Internal MIDI In to receive MIDI from the scaler MIDI FX track.

I then set each instance of play to receive on MIDI channels 2, 3 and 4 respectively to accommodate each note of the 3-note chords from the ‘Canon’ Divisi preset on the scaler MIDI FX track.

I had to enable Input Monitoring on all of the tracks.

Playing the divisi chords on the scaler MIDI FX track, split the chords and sent each note to a separate instance of East West Play. Fiddly indeed, but sounds excellent! :grinning:

Correct that sounds right. Good work and good to know this option now exists within Logic!

Thanks Davide. It seems to be working well, so I’ll save it as a template to build on it.

Hopefully they’ll update the Scaler course to reflect this.
