I just now found out that he passed away last year, at the ripe age of 91. His music deeply impressed me in my youth. And “Chi Mai” is still one of my all-time favorite pieces of music. I could listen to it forever.

I’m reading his book at the moment. Fascinating genius. Italy reinventing American westerns whilst changing their names to ‘English’ sounding names and casting some actor called Clint Eastwood.
I love that Ennio was so fussy about sound design. Should have won 10 oscars, scandalous that they waited for one of his last scores to award him with one.

Maestro Morricone was indeed a genius. His work is outstanding. He will be missed.
