Ableton Live: Using Freeze and Flatten Scaler Performance Generates Audio with Random DropOuts

Scaler 2.9
Ableton Live 12.1
Mac Studio

This behaviour started occurring before Live 12.1. I have noticed it with both melodic and bass performance. Attached is an image showing 2 different Freeze and Flatten bounces where dropouts occur randomly plus real-time captures of both audio and midi of the same performance. Both of those work as expected.

Hi @jeffreyk. This is strange. I’m running a very similar setup to you with Live 12.1 on a Mac Studio and haven’t seen any issues with dropouts when freezing/flattening bass or melody expressions.

Could you just confirm that you are running the latest 2.9.1 release of Scaler 2? Also possibly try performing the freeze/flatten at a variety of hardware buffer sizes in case it is CPU related. I can’t think what else could be causing this. If you are using the AU Scaler 2 plugin you may like to try using the VST3 version to see if performance improves. Although I did try both and didn’t see any difference in behaviour.

Hi Tristan. Thanks for getting back to me. Okay, I did two things. 1. Updated from 2.9 to 2.9.1 and change the buffer from 512 to 1024. The problem disappeared. I reset the buffer back to 512 and the problem did not reoccur. I was already using the VST3 so left that alone. Odd. But thats life…
