Hi @IbizaTom Welcome to the forum. No issue with MIDI detection on our end. You just need to hit the record button and feed Scaler 2 midi. Please check the manual an online references and if you’re still having issues please send us a video or screenshots of what you are doing.
Hy Davide,
working as Producer since 40 years. As Beta Tester, for Ableton, Avid, and a bunch more…since more or less 15-20 years
So i know a little bit how things work. I dont want to be unpolite. But sometimes we can jump direct to troubleshooting before FAQ steps are handled.
I forgot one version info Ableton Live Suite 10.1.43
Forgot to reply your answer:
Of course i did my homework and read before opening a ticket the manual, the FAQ’s, and forum-threads about this issue.
Hi @IbizaTom I understand. However I am suggesting the issue is with your setup/routing not Scaler 2. Can you provide some details on what you are doing/trying to do. We haven’t had any reports from users having problems with MIDI detection in Ableton or any DAW for that matter.
“We haven’t had any reports from users having problems with MIDI detection in Ableton or any DAW for that matter”
now you have two: same problem on studio b computer. mac pro
even by reboot, only opening live without setup, scaler does not detect midi
Can you provide some details on what you are doing/trying to do:
Open LIVE, drag scaler on miditrack. open scaler, hit the recordbutton and grag a midifile into scaler. after pressing yes, scaler does nothing.
the imported/draged midifile is an LIVE exported midifile. so the format is also ok and checked.
same on mac pro
mac os 12.6.2
LIVE 10.1.43
scaler 2.9.1
so there is no setup/routing problem
and we tested the midifile in other daws, so it’s even also not the midiformat of the exported and then draged into scaler midifile
Hi @IbizaTom. Thanks for providing more info.
Guessing you have tried rebooting after installing?
I’m using a slightly different setup (macOS 14.7, Live 11.3.35, Scaler 2.9.1), but I went through the steps you mentioned to see if I could replicate the issue. MIDI detection in Ableton Live worked on my end. Here’s a screen recording showing detection by dragging MIDI onto Scaler (both with and without hitting record) as well as by analysing MIDI in Arrangement view. Just thought this might help clarify the different ways to detect MIDI to ensure we’re on the same page.
If it’s still not working for you, please send us a video or screenshots of your process. Cheers.
hy steven,
thank you for your video. but how i already wrote. we did our homeworks.
please email adress. upload permitts only pictures
Hi @IbizaTom. Thanks for your reply. If it’s not too much trouble, could you upload the video to a cloud sharing service and post a link here? This way, others in the community who might have encountered something similar can also offer their insights. Cheers
Hi
I’ve been playing around with this and found a similar issue with a few, but not the majority, of my midi files. I cannot see what the difference is between those files that Scaler will detect and those it doesn’t. They all appear to be the same format midi files.
To validate the issues I started testing two files, one large and one small) both of which were created as clips in Ableton Live 11 and then exported as midi clips. Scaler does not detect the larger midi clip. I then edited the larger clip down in Ableton to three much shorter clips, 8 bars, 2 bars and 1 bar and exported these as midi clips. I then tried to detect them in Scaler. It did not detect any of these clips. It detects all my other midi clips.
I have tested this in Reaper and found the same behaviour with the same set of midi files. Those files that were detected in Ableton Live 11 were also detected in Reaper, whilst those that wee not detected in Ableton were not detected in Reaper.
I have attached these clips for others to test.
1 bar.mid (179 Bytes)
2 bars.mid (308 Bytes)
8 bars.mid (1.1 KB)
Large Midi.mid (32.3 KB)
Small Midi.mid (221 Bytes)
Thanks @ed66 for your insight here. I’m seeing the same thing on Live 12 where the small MIDI file is being detected by Scaler 2, however the others are not. Interesting that the truncated MIDI files taken from the larger MIDI file are also not detected. This isn’t something I’ve encountered before so we’ll need to explore why this is happening.
@IbizaTom I thought I’d suggest as a workaround that you can simply load the MIDI file into your DAW on the MIDI track hosting Scaler, then press record in Scaler and play the MIDI file and the detection should work exactly the same. Only the process will take a bit longer as the notes are being detected in real-time.
We’ll do some digging and let you know what we find out. Thanks again.
HI,
I’ve been playing a bit more with this and have created a large midi clip in Reaper (87 bars, 2" 52’ long), exported it and then tried to detect it in Scaler by dragging it onto Scaler (in Reaper). Scaler successfully detected the clip.
This suggests that the issue may be something to do with the creation of the clip in Ableton?
The Reaper clip was created using the free Stochas random arpeggiator and is attached for your review.
I also created two shorter clips in Ableton Live today and Scaler was not able to detect them. However, I was able to trigger both the CMThorn vsti and Scaler with the clips.
midi_export_4.mid (12.2 KB)
An update with some more testing as I had time this morning to conduct some more structured tests.
Test 1
In Ableton Live 11:
Test 2
In Ableton Live 11:
In Reaper 7.27:
One thing I noted is that after exporting the file from Reaper the length had increased although it is supposedly the same file as that exported from Live.
The files are attached below
AB Test 1 Loop.mid (160 Bytes)
AB Test 1 No Loop.mid (163 Bytes)
AB Test 2 Loop.mid (580 Bytes)
AB Test 2 No Loop.mid (583 Bytes)
AB Test 3 Loop Reaper.mid (628 Bytes)
AB Test 3 No Loop Reaper.mid (631 Bytes)
