When Using Scalar2 to send midi to another track, taking midi from Scalar track…in Ableton, one must set the channel monitor, back to the channel the midi comes from. This step is critical in getting more than the root note to the ultimate channel (with VST or AU). Had this working. But this is buggy and inconsistent. I cannot recreate it working. but it always works with Chord Prism, never fails. I already tried reinstalling, twice. Don’t think it’s an Ableton Live 12 problem. I’m running an M3 w/128GB RAM. MacOS 15.1
Hi @poetmurp. I’m not sure I follow you. Are you trying to use Scaler 2 to control a 3rd party instrument on another MIDI track in Ableton Live? When you say the ultimate channel, do you mean the MIDI track with the plugin you are sending MIDI to from Scaler?
First make sure you are using the VST, not the AU version of Scaler 2. AU plugins cannot send MIDI to other tracks. Then set the MIDI input and the channel input on the destination MIDI track to Scaler 2. This is one possible with the VST Scaler 2 plugin. Then as long as input monitoring if enabled on the destination track it should work properly.
I’m confused what you mean about getting more than the root note to the destination. You might want to make sure Multi-Voice Output is disabled in Scaler’s preferences. This tries to split the MIDI data out across multiple channels, however it should not make any difference in Ableton Live, as it recombines them all into one channel anyway, making Multi-Voice Output very difficult to achieve in Ableton Live.
