HI pals
I found some shoots I made in November 2014, at a Peter Gabriel’s show
It seems to me that he used some trick to be sure to not forget words
Is it common among modern musicians?
And, that software was a kind of karaoke?

I don’t think there is anything secret about it. It’s pretty standard on iPad/tablets for any musician. I’m sure his may be geared for his needs but it’s out there for use. My brother uses an app on his iPad for sheet music live.
This is common practice. After a lot of years and many songs, it’s hard to remember all that and more importantly not to get lost and end up doing the same verse over again. Especially if there is tracks you have in the background or the like, it’s not as simple to just go keep going. Although that is a lot easier than it used to be with modern tools. Look at some of the live performance software out there, many of them can provide screen feeds with lyrics or chord charts or whatever so people don’t forget what’s next. Steinberg VST Live is one example. Acoustic Modeling Camelot is another. Both off the shelf products now. These used to be complex custom assembled rigs, and Gabriel can probably afford whatever he wants and may still be using a custom rig. I’m sure he has a team of folks hidden under the stage automating any number of tasks with an army of computers. Very common for at least 10 to 15 years now and more like 20 for big acts like Gabriel. It sure beats hand written pieces of paper taped to a monitor wedge. I had to do that for one group I worked for. When they would decied to do a piece they didn’t do very often, I’d have to write up lyric cheat sheets. That happened after one night where the lead singer and operator of the group forgot the lyrics and sang the same verse like 3 times before he remember the rest of the song.
ha ha, I remember a situation like that when Tonino Carotone went to Turin for a show, and because he was blind drunk did the same you are telling about
with the further aggravating circumstance that the lyrics on papers or monitors would have been useless anyway
I don’t think there is any anti-drunk software out there.
