Would be really cool and useful to have the application updates initiated and notified within the application itself, and not have to go to the PluginBoutique site to download them.

Definitely. I actually came here hoping to find a topic listing updates…
What would be nice is to get a notification in Scaler, then let the user choose to update (or not).
For example I’d most likely opt to do a backup before installing the update…
