Hi, could be great to have an interface with Native Instruments Kontakt 8 to give from Scaler 2 the Midi data and relative information which can be used in the Kontakt 8 modules Chord tools and Phrases tool. These modules have good chords and progressions but would be better to have the power of Scaler that can be shared or imported to Kontakt 8 modules to have an infinite options of chords and progressions created in Scaler 2. Note: I have Scaler 2 and already purchased Kontakt 8 and see this great opportunity.
If I understand you correctly you would like the output from Scaler to be input to Kontakt 8 to trigger the new Chord and Phrases tools, and I think I am correct in saying that these tools require a single note input rather than a chord.
Given this I suggest you could use Scalerâs multi-out to generate the notes based on patterns in Scaler, whish separates the bottom four notes of each chord across midi channels 2,3,4 and5. How you route these to Kontakt will depend on your DAW but here is a tutorial illustrating how to do this in Reaper ( Basic Introduction to Multi Out) and for other DAWs see Multi Out with Multi-timbral synths. MIDI routing basic tips and DAW Setups.
Also I want to clarify that would be fine to incude in the next version o versions of Scaler a way where Native Instruments CHORDS could import the progressions made or constructed by us in Scaler as new progressions in that application (this is, each cord would appear as a similar color spiral as a part of a progression. In a similar way to have the Scaler 2 Perform exported to PHRASES as a new Perform or progression.
Over the weekend I updated Komplete Start which includes the Kontakt 8 Player and have tried using both the CHORDS and PHRASES tools and my first impressions are that these tools appear to be mediocre.
Of the two tools PHRASES is more useful but not that great, CHORDS i wonât bother using. I am unlikely to use PHRASES as I have purchased ChordPotion in the past and find it very versatile and flexible (combing ChordPotion with a random arpeggiator (Stochas) to input key switches to change patterns can produce many interesting results),
I also found the default view unhelpful as I prefer the Classic View (grumpy old men applaud).
On the positive side I believe that the number of sounds and instruments included in the Kontant Factory Selection has been expanded.
Until a better solution is implemented you can load the chords one by one into Chords, it does not take more than 3 or 4 minutes to complete the progression.
Is this not touching on a feature in most (he says) DAWs that have a device like âkey constrainâ which can themselves be set to trigger a group of notes from a single input?
I do not know if Kontakt is worth it. But as the tools section is just the start of it. I could imagine that Davide modularizes Scaler (maybe Scaler Lite?) and you get some more tools inside Kontakt 8. But in my view that wouldnât make much sense as you can use Scalerâs Midi output already in Kontakt.
I also invite you to try to export all the chords from a chords tool progression at once via drag and drop. It is hilarious. You will get all 7 of your chords into another (new) track and they will all be played simultaneously at the same time . I tried this in three different DAWs with the same headscratching result. The only thing that is good about the chords tool is the nice-looking optics of it.
The phrases tool is fun when dabbling with it, but you must be aware, that you are using a midi pack a million other users will use as well. Scaler with its performance modes is so much more versatile and you can achieve real uniqueness if you invest some work into it.
I agree here. What I will say is what we have coming is wonderful IMO. We will be able to have our cake and eat it too. Nice tools in K8 and I am enjoying them but like almost everything else in the market you need to go somewhere from there. Next version of Scaler provides many of those âbridgesâ.
I think most of us are eager for the next version but these things canât be rushed, and itâs better for a good range of users beta testers to help sort out niggling problems before being released. Iâm sure it will be worth the wait.
